Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to give your view about a new name for Senate House.

Senate House was the former administrative centre and it is now being transformed into the welcoming heart of our University, with the Bristol SU Living Room, PGR hub and Information Point all now open.

B
y 2021 there will also be a two-floor food court, more study spaces and much more. That’s why we need a name that fits the building’s new purpose as a place for students to learn, study, eat and relax.

Hundreds of students have been involved so far at drop-in events, an online survey and a workshop and we now have over 200 name suggestions. Students also decided the evaluation criteria to help the shortlisting. Thank you to everyone for your ideas.

We now need your help to come up with the shortlist of the five most popular names.

We’re asking you to:

  1. Read through the list of names. (we know it’s a long list! But that’s because so many students made suggestions and we want everyone to be able to view them all)*
  2. Choose your top five and rank them in order of preference (with 1 being your favourite)
  3. Consider the evaluation criteria and allocate a score for each to your top five names (each of the criteria will also be weighted).

What will happen next:
When this survey closes on 18 February, the final scores will be weighted using the percentages selected by students at the renaming workshop.

The five names with the highest combined weighted evaluation scores will become the shortlist. We will then be asking students to vote on their favourite name from this list.

You will be able to vote for your final favourite between Monday 25 February – Wednesday 6 March online. We’ll also have a stand at AMM where you can put in your vote.

Thank you for taking part.

*A small number of suggested names were removed from the longlist because they are existing brand names, could cause offence or are names of current staff or students. One of the principles of the University’s Naming of Buildings policy is that the names of current staff or students should not be used to name buildings.
